Join us for our opening reception for a special exhibit featuring local Wrightwood folk assemblage artist, Paul Samenfeld! With over 20 years as an artist, Paul Samenfeld’s work has been written about, featured on television, and displayed in museums. For this exhibit, he will have many new works not yet seen.

If unable to make it to the opening reception, Paul’s work will be available at the Wrightwood Arts Center from October 2nd through October 25th during our regular open hours (12-5P).

Celebrate your loved ones by designing your own alter or following one of our designs! All materials and instructions will be provided to you as we assist you in your creation. Once finished, alters will be on display at the Wrightwood Arts Center the weekend of Halloween & Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos).

Workshop schedule:

• September 19 @ 9:30 am: Build your alter. Stay as long as needed to complete your alter.

• October 10 @ 9:30 am: Glaze your alter to be fired. Stay as long as needed to complete.

• November 01, 1-4 pm: Day of the Dead Celebration; Alters can be taken home after 4 pm.

For this class, you will be guided as you create your very own assemblage art. All materials will be provided but it is recommended that you search for any frames, buttons, jewelry, chains, wire, lids, and similar items that you have around your house and feel inspiration from. Assemblage art will be constructed using glue. No previous is needed.

This workshop will be a series of classes that begin with creating a tea bowl and a small plate, followed by a day of glazing and raku firing. For the final class we will gather to use our tea bowl and confectionary plate in a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu) guided by Kazumi Svenson. Emersed in nature, we will embody the principles of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility while focusing on mindfulness and finding beauty in imperfection (wabi-sabi).

October 3. 9:30am-12:30pm: The making of the ceramic tea bowl and confectionary dish.

October 17, 3-9pm: Glazing and Raku firing of the ceramic works.

October 24, 2-5pm: The gathering for the “tea ceremony” using our creations.

For this class, you will be drawing a fall still life from direct observation using charcoal pencil as artist Edward Dillon assists you. Drawing from direct observation is the practice of translating your 3-dimensional subject onto your 2-dimensional paper. No previous experience is required and all materials are provided.

Come and explore the beautiful work of Wrightwood local ceramicist, Bonnie Hanson! Her work will be on exhibit at the Wrightwood Arts Center starting July 17, prior to her opening reception on August 01.

Come to Wrightwood for it's annual Mountaineer Days (this year it will be hosted all on one day)! The event has all of Park Dr. filled with vendors and has live music, old-time games and contests, a petting zoo, cowboys and gunfighters, a parade, and more!

At the Wrightwood Arts Center, we will have a free community banner that anyone can paint, artist vendors out front, and our exhibiting artist Thaddeus Sissing will be here with more prints available!

Donation of any amount appreciated. No RSVP needed, but seating is limited.

For this class, your teacher artist will help guide you as you work en plein air (in the open air) within Wrightwood. A variety of mediums will be available for use, such as watercolor, gouache, acrylic, etc. No previous experience is required and all materials are provided. If preferred, participants can also bring their own supplies.
