This workshop will be a series of classes that begin with creating a tea bowl and a small plate, followed by a day of glazing and raku firing. For the final class we will gather to use our tea bowl and confectionary plate in a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu) guided by Kazumi Svenson. Emersed in nature, we will embody the principles of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility while focusing on mindfulness and finding beauty in imperfection (wabi-sabi).
October 3. 9:30am-12:30pm: The making of the ceramic tea bowl and confectionary dish.
October 17, 3-9pm: Glazing and Raku firing of the ceramic works.
October 24, 2-5pm: The gathering for the “tea ceremony” using our creations.
